It’s the one weekend of the year that some of Australia’s most modified cars and bikes grace Sydney’s Eastern Creek Raceway and put on a serious show for thousands of spectators. With everything from custom street machines, drift cars, custom choppers and full house drag cars, the annual event never fails to produce plenty of excitement with its array of activities. Ladies and Gentlemen, sit back, relax, and enjoy Balabka Design’s Powercruise 2010 coverage.
This year’s event saw a large variety of cars competing in all areas including the power skids, drifting, burnout comp, dyno comp and of course the cruising. With the chance to cruise around Eastern Creek Raceway with some of Australia’s wildest cars, many people took to the track in the cruising sessions. The pits were buzzing all weekend long and spectators had the opportunity to see the cars up close and personal. Friday afternoon heated up when Ivan Tesic and his ‘MRMAD’ twin turbo Torana made its arrival. Alongside the one and only ‘MRMAD’ Torana was Crossroads Racing’s ‘FAT LH’ Torana ready to rock and roll, Johnny Wilson’s ‘STAUNCH’ HK Monaro which unfortunately ended up into the wall later on in the weekend, Ivan’s ’05 HDT’ VK Brock, the ex-LNATIK Ford Capri looking better than ever sporting ‘MR MAD’ stickers on the back windscreen and of course Crossroads Racing’s GROUP A VK SS formerly known as ‘FAT VK’. With a barrage of cars of this quality arriving on Day 1, it set the tone for the weekend ahead.
Saturday was another action packed day with even more entrants and more spectators. The ever famous team from PAC Performance was on hand displaying their 20B powered Mazda 6 which currently holds the record for the quickest rotary on the planet. Whilst crowds surrounded the Mazda 6 all day, some PAC Performance customers were also grabbing a lot of attention. Damien’s seriously tough ‘GRUMP2’ 20B Mazda RX2 was on hand to put on a show, Nando’s freshly built ‘FRYSEM’ RX2 was also in attendance aswell as the ‘STUTTA’ R100 and a fleet of Mazda RX3s including ‘PMPGAS’, ‘RX35OM’, ‘ID09EZ’ and ‘RUNYAH’.
Saturday night’s burnout comp was literally heating up with many competitors pushing their cars to breaking point. Steve Loader’s now famous ‘UCSMOKE’ HT Premier threw a massive fireball from underneath the car whilst frying those rear tyres. Needless to say Powercruise wouldn’t be complete without the ‘FAT LH’ Torana of Crossroads Racing lighting up them tyres. The Canulli brothers pushed the Torana to boiling point with the car repeating its efforts of last year and managing a massive skid followed by some serious flames!
