08/11/09 was the date for this year’s Supernats event and the day fans and competitors said R.I.P to Oran Park. With the event usually held at WSID, organizer Ahmed opted to give Oran Park a farewell event to remember. With over 500 pre entrants for the event, not even grey clouds and a bit of rain could ruin this farewell!
Show ‘N’ Shine, power skids, cruising, burnouts and 1/8th mile drag racing. What more could one ask for? With some big names and serious cars already entered, Supernats 09 was bound to be a success. The Show ‘N’ Shine was an event which ran all day and showcased some of Australia’s wildest rides. Queen Street had a strong line up of cars on display as always with the ‘S2SEXY’ Honda S2000 making its long awaited debut and gaining plenty of positive feedback. Danny’s ‘CUSTM1’ WRX stole the show over at the Custom Bodyworks display. The heavily modified WRX along with several customer cars made sure their display was always surrounded by admiring on lookers.
For the people not quite into the whole ‘show car’ scene, there was still plenty of eye candy floating around with hot rods, lowriders, drift cars and custom choppers in attendance. The ‘PAZEST’ Ford Capri had its bonnet off all day and with a flawless engine bay dominated by chrome, why not? Joe’s ‘MR FC’ also came dressed for the occasion sporting a timeless white and yellow paint scheme. A few lowriders came out to play for the day including a ’61 Impala sitting on gold wires and appropriately wearing ‘O G’ number plates. Original Gangster at its finest!
Rain periods throughout the day slightly interfered with some of the driving events and made it hard for drivers to put power to the ground. Vince Rigoli was out in force in his tubbed Datsun 1200 Ute and really struggled to find traction in the 1/8 mile drags. The burnout comp proceeded in the slightly slippery conditions and unfortunately grabbed one victim with the ‘DRIFTZ’ Nissan 200SX having an encounter with the wall. The Crossroads Racing crew stole the show once again though with their ‘FAT LH’ Torana having no issues lighting up the rears.
