Over 550 horses, 18” FR Simmons, bonnet mounted gauges, and a custom tan leather trim. This VK sure has all the ingredients to make one tough cruiser. The look on people’s faces when Pete drives this monster day in day out? Priceless! When I asked Pete about how it feels to pilot 550HP around every day, his reply was simply ‘It’s OK I guess’. Pretty damn modest if you ask me!
It was about 2 years ago Pete stumbled across this VK for his wife. Not actually liking Commodores himself, Pete’s wife drove the car around for a few months before Pete made the decision to modify the beast and turn her into a 550+ HP daily drive. The car has been subject to a complete makeover since Pete bought the car and to say it’s coming along way would be an understatement. The custom tan leather interior, bonnet mounted gauges, gold FR Simmons and the superb white paint job give this car a stunning look that most would agree with.
Clint George from Stress Racing was the designated engine builder and produced a 355 stroker packing enough power to gain respect on the strip not to mention the street. Along with a 2 speed powerglide gearbox with a shortened 1st gear, 9” diff, a transbrake setup and a 3” exhaust with twin resonators, a low 10 second pass should come with ease. With Pete’s other car, an LH Torana previously reeling off a 9.6 second pass, his experience behind the wheel will go hand in hand with this powerful VK.
After building this VK and his LH Torana, Pete decided it was time for more power and currently has a ¾ chassis LJ Torana in the build. The car is only months away from completion but until then, he will have to settle for his ‘street car’. Only if we were all that lucky!
