When I first read about James’ immaculate Mazda R100/1200 on AusRotary.com, I knew the car had the potential to be an impressive feature on my website. I followed the build thread for quite some time and was very impressed with the quality of the build. Many things pulled my attention to the car including the mini tubbed rear end, roll cage, custom blue paint job and most importantly the heart of the car. A 13BBPT setup ready to mesmerize on lookers and produce 9 second passes when business time arrives. With the car near completion, James contacted me via email and a photo shoot was arranged. Time to rock ‘n’ roll!
With a love for the R100 shape, James snapped up this already mini tubbed R100/1200 from South Australia about 18 months ago. The car was street driven for about 3 months before James took the car to his good mate Phil at Street Neat Welding in West Gosford to enquire about having a half cage installed in the car. It was all too late for owner James and the bug had bitten. The car was stripped down and a full cage was put in. Once Phil at Street Neat completed his various tasks on the car including the custom dash, exhaust system, fuel system etc, it was then transported to George at Speedy Paint & Panel. A custom blue mix was created by George and the car was then carefully and precisely painted. I think the results speak for themselves!
With the paint and bodywork being taken care of, the car still needed a heartbeat. The brains of Kev at South Coast Rotary were utilized and a 9 second S5 13B Bridgeport Turbo package was built. James was not prepared to take any shortcuts with the car, hence the installation of a few goodies including a Garrett TO4Z Turbo, Microtech LTX12S computer, a Turbosmart blow off valve and an MSD igniter and coils. The car has since been sent down to Race Solutions in Sydney for a strong tune and a few other cosmetic things. With the car shaping up very nicely indeed, a few things still needed to addressed including the trim.
Scott at Master Trim was assigned the task of decking out this mini tubbed monster. The black and grey colour combination is consistent through the whole interior and compliments the car in every way possible. The Autometer gauges and e-Boost 2 were fitted into the custom dash and have really completed the already wild interior!
James would like to thank all his mates involved in the build of the car especially his mate Mick. Without his countless hours on the spanners, this car would not be where it is today. A special thanks also goes out to Simon for rewiring the whole car. The thanks to Phil at Street Neat Welding must not go without mention. His factory space, lending of tools and hoists, efforts and knowledge have played a major role in how the car sits today!
